The Scorpio-Taurus Axis: A Meditation on Control

It's Scorpio season and I haven't been here in quite some time.

I've written articles of course, I just haven't gotten around to posting them.

But I've been missing this space and it's been calling to me more and more so here I am returning to it once again.

Because we need to talk about Scorpio season and control. Or rather, I need to to talk about it because I have a couple of very strong Scorpio placements. You may or may not need to talk about it.

When you read about Scorpio on the internet streets, you see the same buzz words thrown around: transformation, debt, shared finances, other people's money, the occult, etc.

And when you read about its opposite sign Taurus, you often see buzz words like values, money, self worth, resources, and security.

But when we talk about these two signs together and theme that they're both working on in different ways, we never really hear a conversation about control.

And to me, the Scorpio-Taurus axis is fundamentally about control.

What you can control.

What you can't control.

What you should control.

What you shouldn't control.

And what you think you can control.

To me, Taurus is a case study in controlling the controllables. She is practical and realistic. She understands worth and value and she knows where to focus her energy to reap the biggest reward. That is a form of abundance to me.

And Scorpio is a case study in the opposite: letting go of that which you can't control. They accept that which they cannot control and release any effort to do so. They understand that some things are beyond the realm of humanity and must be handled by the divine and act accordingly.

In both signs, trying to exercise too much control or being controlling is disastrous. Taurus becomes a bully, a hoarder, and materialistic and Scorpio becomes controlling, obsessive, jealous in an unhealthy way, and perhaps even crosses the threshold into trying to play God.

So as we step into a Scorpio season where both Mercury and Venus are retrograde in Scorpio, I can't shake the feeling that the present time period we're living through and surviving is a meditation on control.

Who has it, who thinks they have it, who definitely doesn't have it, and the limits and boundaries of it in society, in your work, in your community, in your friendships, and in your families.

Control is something humans naturally seek out when they feel out of it. The "it" being control. The less in control we feel, the more control we seek.

So as our political situation continues to spiral downwards and our economy continues to tank, I think we'll see more and more people turn to the places where they feel in control, even if that control is an illusion.

The typical culprits are things like religion/cults, exercise, strict diets, those insane people with 5am to 9am routines that precede their 9 to 5, etc.

I think we'll also see people who are used to feeling powerful and in control acting out of desperation to maintain that semblance of power and control, even if they've already lost it.

Here are some questions I've been journaling on lately that you may find fruitful in your own exploration of your relationship to control:

  • What things have I been trying to control and why?
  • What are the things in my life that I feel like I need to be perfect and why?
  • What will happen if I lose or give up control (write down every worst case scenario)?
  • What's something I'm trying to control that I actually have no control over?
  • What are the areas of my life where I'm not exercising the control I do have and what's that about?
  • Where do I feel like I need others to shift their behaviors? How does that shift in behavior benefit me? And, if that behavior shift does benefit me, is there a way I can create that benefit for myself without another person being involved?

Here's to a Scorpio season of righting our relationship to control.
